Some Good And Useful Recycling Tips For You
Are you a responsible owner of a beautiful piece of property like that from St George real estate?
If so, you will want to know how to properly take care and manage your new home. But being a responsible home owner shouldn’t be your limit. You should also be a good citizen.
Are you actively engaged in helping the environment?
Helping to preserve the environment is a very important thing to do. And the simple acts of a good home owner (like properly segregating and taking out the trash) can contribute to the cause.
You would want to help make the Earth a better place for your kids and future generations, right?
If you’re not that well-informed when it comes to “saving the Earth,” you can start by doing an easy act. Everyone knows this so you can do it to. It’s recycling.
Do you already recycle? You may think that you do. But reusing some plastic bags every once in a while does not mean that you are recycling responsibly and properly. Here are some good tips that you can follow to become a responsible home owner, citizen and recycler.
- Set up a place in your home where all recyclables can be stored. This should be an accessible place. It should be a place where everyone in your household can always be reminded of its presence.
- Teach your children the basics of segregating; the biodegradables, non-biodegradables and recyclables. This simple process can make the lives and jobs of our garbage men easier.
- Make sure to have sturdy containers for your recyclables.
- There is no need to remove labels from bottles that are to be recycled.
- Always reuse your plastic bags. Or if you have more than enough already, bring the bags to the grocery where they will be recycled accordingly.
- Make sure to be aware of the different types of plastics. Believe it or not, there are some plastics which are NOT advisable for recycling.
- Reuse old mail, handouts, printouts, and various papers. You can give them to your child to use as scratch paper for their homework or doodles. You can also them to write down your grocery list and notes.
- All white papers, including those found in magazines and newspapers, are recyclable.
- Find good recycling stations for things such as batteries, electronics and gadgets. Don’t throw them out.
- Research on ways you can create artsy crafts from recyclables. This can be a good hobby to do with your child.
Recycling – Turning Waste Into Worth
Recycling is big business. It’s amazing just how far reaching recycling has come over the last 20 or 30 years. When I was a kid the nearest we came to recycling was by way of returning our milk bottles or reusing our egg cartons. We weren’t recycling so much as being practical.

And that’s pretty much the premise that all recycling is built upon. Aiming to reuse as much as possible, or turning to naturally occurring resources (such as solar power for example) makes good sense. Why continue to use something that is harmful to our environment?
Most of us dispose of our trash with little to no thought as to what happens to it once it hits the trash can. But – there’s a whole lot more thought that should go into it. Every time the trash is removed, where’s it going? What happens to it? These are but two of the questions we need to start asking ourselves.
Happily the trend for reusing as much as humanly possible is one that continues to gain traction. Even more fortunate is the fact that there’s so many products that we can recycle. As recently as a month ago, I bought a new pair of Oakley sunglasses – recycling my old pair by way of a charitable organization that collects and redistributes old one.
Equally I had to buy a new pair of prescription sports goggles (not only do I care about the environment, I also take care of my health and well-being!) and although my older ones were well used, they went to a group that collect sports gear for local budding sports girls and bys that can’t afford to buy new ones.
There are, if you think about it, many ways in which we can recycle – much of it being of little to no effort on our parts. Plus the very fact that you’re willing to recycle anything that can be recycled also means that you’re turning what used to considered a waste product into one of value!
Recycling around your home, and throughout your day to day life, may not be something you currently pay much attention to but … you’ll be surprised at just how much you can contribute with so little effort. Recycling – turning waste into something of worth … now that’s magic!
